This photo of Lee Miller was taken in Paris (ca. 1930) by Horst P. Horst, then a young photographer just starting out. When he proudly showed her the finished print, she said with great approval, “Wow! that’s a howl!” Mistaking her meaning for mockery, he vowed never to photograph her again. In the few years that followed, both went on to become major photographic talents.
