Check out the unusual construction of this French Elfe Cycle Car. It is based on a sheet-metal chassis with a cable-operated pivoting front axle sprung by coil springs. The rear axle is located by links and sprung with cantilever springs. The 20-degree Anzani air-cooled engine is cooled by a belt-driven fan. The Macomber Rotary engined car - Collector and racing enthusiast Eric Coyne of California is working on a book covering early West Coast races and has found that a Macomber Racing car was involved in one. This news prompted a bit more research here that turned up the photo (above) of Walter G. Macomber’s car powered by one of his seven-cylinder rotary engines.

A Mason Racing Car. This car was based on the Mason car they designed and built before going out on their own. It featured an 8-valve engine with long vertical rocker arms or what they called at the time “walking beams”. This is one of they’re early 1913 entries at Indy driven by Jack Tower who crashed on the 51st lap and was out. The highest finisher of the three Masons entered that year was Willie Haupt who finished 9th and in the money after finishing all 200 laps.
